Since late July, my Maine Course column has featured 27 recipes intended to inspire, delight and captivate home cooks everywhere.
As we end 2014, here’s a look back at the 10 most popular recipes from the column this year — and a few that we loved. Enjoy!
10. Vegetable Basil Soup
This easy soup is a mostly-hands-off recipe that creates something perfect for chilly nights. Whether you serve it with grilled cheese, as I do, or fortify it with the addition of beans or chicken, it’s perfect for family dinners and a breeze to make. It was also the recipe I demonstrated at the Harvest Festival in Bangor in November.

9. Maple Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Andouille Sausage and Apricots
Brussels sprouts used to be one of the most universally hated vegetables. But then cooks and chefs got smart and gave these little nutritious veggies a fresh life with different cooking methods like roasting. Suddenly people realized how delicious they can be. It’s heartening how much people love Brussels sprouts now (I do too!). And it’s even better when I get messages from colleagues who tell me that this recipe — with its addictive sweet-spicy combination — converted sprouts haters to lovers in their homes.

8. How to Make the Perfect Milkshake
Love milkshakes? Me too! That’s why I was so excited to share my foolproof method after a trip to the Gifford’s ice cream factory.

7. Pumpkin Spice Iced Pumpkin Cookies
Nope, there’s no pumpkin in the ubiquitous Pumpkin Spice Latte at the coffee chain whose name sounds something like bar-stucks. But these Pumpkin Spice Iced Pumpkin Cookies have great real pumpkin flavor in their tender crumb, and that great spice mixture in the icing.

6. Loaded Cheddar Beer Bread
With just five ingredients (and three of them were beer, cheese and bacon!), this simple recipe yields big flavor results in the form of a tender loaf of bread. The folks in the newsroom at the BND loved it — and so did you!

5. Buttery Apple Crumble
Apple season might be over, but the legacy of this buttery crumble lives on. It’s a recipe perfect for cooking with children.

4. Honey Maple Cornbread
As a girl from the north, I like my cornbread sweet — and apparently so do you! Filled with the nuanced flavors of honey, cornbread and actual corn kernels, this is ready in just about 30 minutes — which makes it perfect for accompanying dinner almost any night.

3. Homemade Cheeseburger Macaroni
This was one of my children’s favorite recipes of the year — so that makes it extra special to me. But aside from this comfort food recipe, this was also one of my favorite essays of 2014. In it, I talked about family dinners, why they are important and why a certain writer had it all wrong when she declared war on them. If you haven’t read it yet, I hope you do now.

2. Crispy Baked Hot Wings
Can baked wings really be crispy? Yes! And they can also be saucy, hot and flavorful too. I shared this recipe at the start of the football season … and as the NFL heads into the playoffs (sadly my team — the Oakland Raiders — is done for the year), it’s still a great game day recipe for digging into while watching the pigskin get tossed around.

And the top Maine Course recipe of 2014 was …
1. Overnight Homemade Cinnamon Rolls
Tender, fluffy cinnamon rolls swirled with a buttery layer of light brown sugar and cinnamon and glazed with a simple vanilla glaze … these babies, posted just last week, quickly won your hearts and tummies.
